Use the descriptions below to match the type of information you need with a source. 

Articles and Databases Tab

      Academic Journal Articles:

  • Detailed and focused discussion of a subject
  • Often contains original research producing statistics or other data
  • Created for a targeted audience and may include specialized vocabulary

      Newspaper articles:

  • Provides information on current events and opinions
  • Can offer perspectives on a specific place or current/historical time period

      Magazine articles:

  • General information on a topic
  • Created for a general audience and written in an easy-to-understand style

Books Tab 

  • In-depth examination of a topic
  • Can be written from a single perspective or as compilation of multiple views from different authors on the same topic

Reference Sources Tab

  • Encyclopedias, dictionaries, field guides, and other reference sources are a great starting place for research 
  • Provide an overview and/or background information about a topic
